Your first session

What to expect, step by step.

Starting therapy can feel like a lot. Here is exactly what happens, from your first message to the day we finish.

01

Reach out

Send a short message or book a free 15-minute call. Tell us as much or as little as you like. We reply within 48 hours, often sooner.

02

Meet your therapist

Your first session is about getting to know each other: what’s brought you here, what you hope for, and whether it feels right. No pressure to continue.

03

Work together

Regular sessions at the same time each week or fortnight. We review how it’s going every six sessions, and change course if we need to.

04

End well

When you’re ready, we plan an ending together, so you leave with what you’ve learned and know you can come back.

02 — Confidentiality

What you say here stays here.

Your therapist discusses their work anonymously in clinical supervision, which keeps your therapy safe and good. The only exceptions to confidentiality are a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or a legal requirement. We’ll explain these in your first session, and talk to you first wherever we possibly can.

Good to know

  • You don’t need to prepare anything
  • You can bring notes if it helps
  • Arrive five minutes early; there’s tea in the waiting room
  • You can say “I don’t know” — often that’s where we start
  • You decide what we talk about and how fast

03 — Questions

Before you begin

Take the first small step.
