What a repair attempt looks like
A repair attempt is any small move that stops an argument escalating: a joke, a touch, “I’m sorry, that came out wrong,” or “Can we start again?”
Why repairs fail
When resentment has built up, repair attempts can be missed or rejected. Part of couples therapy is helping each person notice and accept the other’s attempts.
Try this week
Agree on a phrase that means “let’s pause and come back to this.” Use it, then actually come back to it — within a day. Small habits like this, practised often, change how a relationship feels.
